VIDYARTHULA VIJAYAM

NO

VIDYA KU AVAMANAM

MAHESH AMMANAMANCHI

As we have all seen and read recently, the Midnight Announcement by P Chidambaram of the Congress (I) was proclaimed by many elected and other politicians of the Telangana Region as Vidyarthula Vijayam (Students Victory). It was very confusing, because of the Fast unto Death and other gimmicks performed and pursued by the Telangana politicians, I thought they would claim the success. Instead, they praised and credited the Vidyarthulu as the victors.

Does it mean that the politicians concluded that they do not deserve the credit, or, it was one more effort by them to hoodwink the innocent Vidyarthulu to suffer and sacrifice more, for supporting the selfish agenda of the Politicians? This exercise definitely needs to be analyzed appropriately.

HISTORY

Way back in 1969, as referred in the previous article, the Late Dr. Channa Reddy was also successful in roping in Students, and hundreds of Students laid down their lives, thousands of them lost their limbs, tens of thousands of them spoiled their future. After the agitation was aborted, he repositioned himself in power, increased his prominence, and, improved his prosperity.

And, alas, what happened to all those students, who struggled, and were not even declared Martyrs? No Plaques, No Statues, no anniversaries, no mention of their names. At least in the USA, there is a cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, where dead soldiers are laid to rest with all Military Honors, like a 21 gun Salute, music played by the Military Band, etc. However, that part of the area where they are buried is known as “Tomb of the Unknown”. Here we are, absolutely no such thing. Their hard working parents, working day and night to make both ends meet, and spending their fortune to educate and dreaming of their son or daughter becoming an Engineer, Doctor, Lawyer, Professor, Scientist, not only lost their child/children, but also hopes and happiness.

Guess, who were the beneficiaries of he being in some office of profit? Cronies, Loyalists, his children, and other hangers on (Example: Marri Shashidhar Reddy, MLA of AP, and some office of profit at the Center). So, what happened to all those who lost lives, became handicapped, and, sacrificed their future, for the support of his Separate Telangana Movement? No one knows. They, who are lucky to be alive, and, their parents may be languishing in abject poverty, and cursing politicians for their fate.

VIDYARTHULU

It is true, Vidyarthulu have always been in the forefront of many agitations and movements, whether it was the Separate Telangana Movement in 1969, or the Lok Narayan Jaya Prakash Narayan’s movement in the 1970s, or the End Emergency movement in 1975. Consistently, they have been the backbone of major political movements in India, and when I say Consistently, I mean it. There has been lot of Consistency in it. Everyone, a scheming Politician hatches a plan, because he has to regain his/her power, uses Vidyarthulu as the army. In the USA, the President is the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces. If he stages a war, or commissions the US military, no questions asked, everyone in the Military has to obey.

But, there is a difference. All those who are enlisted in the Military, are bestowed with many benefits, their health insurance is guaranteed, their families are taken care of, and, they are recognized and rewarded, for the service and sacrifice for the country. And in India, Vidyarthulu are used, misused, and, abused, for every agitation, movement, and, whatever. I thought, Vidyarthulu, are expected to be intelligent, but, not innocent, and ignorant.

What is the primary objective of being a Vidyarthi? A human being has many options of living life, earning livelihood, pursuing a future. He/She can be a Car driver, Peon, Servant Maid, Clerk, Dhobi, Hair Cutter, Shoe repairer, a milk vendor, Vegetable/fruit Seller, Rickshaw Puller, Auto Rickshaw Driver, or pursue any employment or business or career. I am not referring the above with any intentions of belittling their professions or pursuits. Every one of them works hard, they have families to support, and we all need them, in our daily lives.

It is only fate in their life that they could not become a Vidyarthi, and become a literate, and pursue careers as a Doctor, Engineer, Lawyer, Architect, Professor, etc. I remember my father saying that by acquiring an academic qualification, we cannot claim that we are Educated, we are just Literate. Many educated people can be Literates, but, not all Literates are Educated. Most of the people pursuing the activities I referred in the previous paragraph may not be literate, but, most of them, definitely educated. Education and Literacy cannot be understood to be the same.

However, if a Literate person is not perceived to be educated, that is a recipe for disaster. We all pursue Education, or start as a Vidyarthi, to read, study, learn, and, acquire knowledge, for the creation of different things. Let me be very blunt here. Did any of our Teachers, Lecturers, Professors, while we were a Vidyarthi, teach us to destroy Property, disturb peace, create nuisance, cause inconvenience to common people, lose our lives or limbs, spoil our future, or be a criminal, or not be a person of civility? No one, Never. Not at all.

VIDYA is Education. ARTHI is a person working on acquiring Education. Anyone can be a Vidyarthi. If someone is a Vidyarthi, they have to follow, commit, sacrifice, suffer, surrender, and, separate themselves from activities that do not comply with the standard operating procedures of being a Vidyarthi or being born to parents who want us be a Vidyarthi. We all have our options open. But once we commit to be a Vidyarthi, Let us be ONE.

Vidyarthulu, I have been there, seen all, done that, recognized and realized the value of being one, and, feel very bad of doing some things, I did, and feel I should not have done them. I salute my Parents for their hard work to provide me the Best education, I could have ever had.
AN APPEAL

I am pleading, requesting, and, appealing to every Vidyarthi, particularly to every Vidyarthi in the Telangana Region, not to succumb to the manipulations or machinations of the Telangana Region, because, almost every politician there has have ulterior motives and hidden agendas to advance their political careers and pursue their prosperity. Almost none of them have ever recognized or rewarded any Vidyarthi with anything beneficial, once their plans materialized, agendas accomplished, and, objectives optimized.

Your parents have sent to the academic institutions you are students of, by working hard and spending their fortunes, in anticipation of survival and success, progress and prosperity, hope and happiness. Apart from their expense, the Government, at the Tax Payer’s expense, is spending lots of money on funding the Academic Institutions you are being educated in, whether it may be in the form of Salaries of the Teaching Staff, the Administrative personnel, the Accommodation you live in, or the Public Transportation that moves you from Place A to Place B.

Please think of the same students in your academic institutions who have accomplished accolades, occupied positions of importance, acquired Doctorates, became great personalities, not only in India, but also in several parts of the world. Just think of Dr. Abdul Kalam, your former President, or Dr. Manmohan Singh, your present Prime Minister, or any one who was a Vidyarthi, long time ago, or any other great person of your choice. Believe me, none of the Great people, who have been a Vidyarthi, ever destroyed government property, caused inconvenience, or created hardships to a common person, working hard to feed a few mouths, like many of your parents.

MORAL OF THE STORY

Just because you are a Vidyarthi, mistaking that you are having a lot of free time, spend all your spare time, to participate in all these fruitless exercises, and get inspired by all and sundry politicians, who have gotten there, where they are now, because of ill-gotten wealth, well developed connections, and, as said earlier, with a selfish intention of prospering themselves, and, by advancing their personal agenda.

Please spend your spare time by reading success stories, like JRD Tata, the Senior Birla, Dhirubhai Ambani, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Larry(Oracle), David Tepper, etc. Or may be
Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Akbar, Shah Jehan (the Taj Mahal he Built is still one of the wonders of the world), or, any thing else that will inspire you to be a great human being for the future.

Every one of you is brilliant human beings. Do not waste it. Utilize your intelligence. Be a Good Human Being. Create something Great (Not Separate Telangana). That the subsequent generations will remember you.

PLEASE DO NOT LOSE YOUR LIFE OR LIMBS, OR MAKE YOUR PARENTS FEEL ASHAMED OF YOU.

BE A BRIGHT STUDENT, PROUD BROTHER/SISTER, HAPPY SPOUSE, RESPONSIBLE PARENT, A GREAT TELUGU, AND, A PROUD INDIAN.
